2009: Year in Review

I think it’s safe to say that we can go ahead and etch this into stone:

Launch survived the year 2009.

This year proved to be a challenging one as new and existing clients struggled to keep an interactive perspective on their marketing budgets. All and all, we pushed through projects, knocked on doors, soared in wowing clients, waved goodbye and hello to clients, pitched our hearts out, and pushed through each day.

Just keeping the projects flowing was a huge accomplishment considering the economic state of the outside world. But interactive seemed to take and upswing as many of our clients realized that going online is an affordable and organic way to approach getting the word out. We’d have to agree it’s the way to go. Although some of our projects included the smell of freshly-printed paper.

It’s true that many of our projects humbled us and some inspired us, but somewhere along the way we realized a few things…

  • Just like any blind date, expectations have to be managed.
  • Doing the right thing regardless of the budget, does actually count. (And no, we aren’t just trying to butter up Santa or put extra pennies in our karma loafers).
  • Having a good process isn’t necessarily science, but Jasmine now wears a lab coat and safety goggles.
  • Taking a big leap is sometimes the result of taking a lot of smaller, carefully planned out steps. Nick took the big leap, and landed a wife.
  • A team with open territory is not immune to walls of miscommunication. We all still need to learn how to hammer through the glass.
  • Our team mascot is in fact a unicorn, because they are magical and strange creatures, just like Zach.
  • We have to continue to be self-propelled, or we will never see the finish line. Elizabeth keeps her running shoes under her desk, just in case.
  • We are proud of our clients, even if they aren’t the large brand giants….yet.
  • Sometimes being on the client side of the fence helps us understand more than just our own backyard. Ask Rich, he’s done a lot of client landscaping.
  • Dogs make great co-workers unless you need them to finish a project for you. We think it’s time Chunk learned to answer the phones and run errands.
  • We are small, but grow big ideas. Farming them takes a lot of skill, patience, dedication and good soil. For anyone wondering, that’s why there’s a bag of Miracle Grow under Mel’s desk.
  • Not all of our projects are built to gain awards, but always to gain rewards.

Busy? You betcha. We launched over 20 web projects, sent over 500,000 emails for clients, and created more than 200 banner ads, that doesn’t even include social marketing efforts! And to quote our fearless leader, Elizabeth Lester “We were busy, but I think we can be busier in 2010.”

To include other memorable quotes from the rest of us:

“I thought this was an upscale place, not this place, but that place.” - Zach Young

“I speak mumble.” - Kim Boykan

“Shambles!” - Jasmine Stark

“Let’s go spoon Dave’s office.” - Mel Williams

“There’s too much spoonfeeding around here, I’m the one that needs tending to.” - Rich Loftus
